A Forensic & Clinical Psychology Team Dedicated to Evidence-Based Care

Dr. Ian Wellspring is a Licensed Psychologist with a practice in forensic psychology. He graduated from the accredited clinical psychology program at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan Campus) in 2025. He completed his pre-doctoral internship through the accredited Saskatoon and Area Clinical Psychology Residency Program, with a forensic specialization. Throughout his clinical training, he has provided services in various custodial, probation, and forensic mental health settings in British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

During his clinical training, he developed and enhanced clinical interests providing evidence-based, person-centered, and effective interventions and assessment services to justice-involved individuals. He is passionate about supporting change, instilling and supporting hope, and promoting safety. He primarily provides services to adults involved in the criminal justice system.

Currently, Dr. Wellspring works as a Psychologist with Forensic Psychiatric Services (Provincial Health Services Authority). His responsibilities include conducting pre-sentence reports and risk assessments focused on identifying the risk, need(s), and responsivity factors associated with general, violent, intimate partner violence, and sexual recidivism. Dr. Wellspring’s
responsibilities also include providing treatment services for justice-involved individuals focused on mitigating risk and/or providing evidence-based treatment for individuals who are experiencing mental health concerns involved in the criminal justice system. Dr. Wellspring is also a Sessional Lecturer at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan Campus).

Dr. Wellspring’s research interests include program evaluation, evidence-based practice in identifying risk and managing recidivism, deception, and therapy across communication modalities (i.e., zoom therapy). His dissertation focused on therapists’ perceived effectiveness across communication modalities, and deception within a therapeutic context. Historically, he
worked with the Forensic Sexual Offence Program, which primarily included conducting research focused on sexual recidivism. Dr. Wellspring continues to be involved in research and program evaluation projects focused on sexual and violent recidivism (e.g., identifying risk, risk reduction services, etc.).
